
Council Member Leroy Bennett is seeking re-election to continue representing the Cypress Borough of Suffolk. A longtime Suffolk resident and public servant, Bennett has earned a reputation for steady leadership, independent judgment, and a genuine commitment to the people he serves. He understands the values, concerns, and priorities of residents because Suffolk is not just where he serves, it is home. Throughout his time on City Council, Bennett has remained focused on listening to citizens, carefully evaluating issues, and making thoughtful decisions that protect neighborhoods, preserve quality of life, and ensure residents have a voice in the future of the city.
Prior to serving on City Council, Bennett served as Chairman of the Suffolk Economic Development Authority and as a member of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board. A retired General Foreman at Newport News Shipbuilding and a United States Navy veteran, Bennett brings decades of leadership, practical experience, and community service to his role. He remains committed to accessible leadership, responsive government, and helping build a strong, safe, and thriving Suffolk where every neighborhood matters and every voice is valued.
